UniTech Second Annual R3 Nuclear Workshop for Nuclear Professionals Covers Economic, Environmental, Technological, and Regulatory Topics
More than 80 nuclear industry professionals filled sessions at UniTech Services Group’s second annual U.S. Users Group, the UniTech R3 Nuclear Workshop, which was held in June in Chicago. In a series of presentations responding to current trends in cost and sustainability management, nuclear industry experts shared initiatives and programs that “reduce, reuse and recycle.” Management from nuclear plants throughout the U.S. and firms providing services and products to nuclear facilities led the presentations and discussions. Topics included advances in protective clothing and accessories, radioactive waste minimization, equipment and tool monitoring and decontamination, methods to manage worker heat stress and other workplace risks, and more.
Industrial Solutions (IIS), NextEra and Exelon also made strong presentations on technological monitoring advancements and resource management. IIS President Stan Robinson, NextEra Supervisor John Karrick, Exelon RP John Moser, and others touched on these and other subjects as well.Participants were also invited to join in networking activities including a dinner on the 99th floor of the Willis Tower, overlooking downtown Chicago.
According to George Bakevich, Vice President at UniTech Services Group, “The 2013 workshop showed how important peer education and networking is to the nuclear industry. The presentations and feedback we received could not have been more positive. We are grateful to all the participants and presenters who made this a worthwhile and engaging event.” Participants commented that the material had practical applications for their facilities.
The annual workshop has become a must for nuclear industry professionals involved with radiation protection; radioactive waste management; respiratory protection; nuclear facility maintenance; scaffolding, tools and equipment management; protective clothing programs; or outage management.
